As predicted by many, Porsche driver Cory Friedman takes the top spot on the “podium”, leaving MINI to eat it’s dust on its own autocross layout, on a day of its choosing and after all the hype. Although not a race that Porsche needed nor wanted to officially participate in, it chalked in yet another first place finish and finally (let’s hope) put this publicity stunt to rest (at least for now)!  Now that all is said and done, I admit a certain guilty pleasure from this whole affair!  I guess a thank you is in order, but I wouldn’t want to encourage MINI to do this again.

Here’s the official race video:

some nice comments on the Mini FB page from Cory, the Porsche driver. seems like a good dude. he was clearly told to go ahead and win the thing, and Mini doesn’t seem to mind.

the final video is fun and to me this was always just an attempt at some lighthearted advertising laffs. I do wonder if Mini was hoping the result would be a little closer … but highly doubt they would ever admit it either way ….

I’ll check out the comments….I laughed at the final video too this morning!
I mean, MINI USA did go for it with this campaign…stretching their advertising dollars by making us do all of the legwork and using social media, etc……i am sure they feel they got something out of it….or at least some bang for their “mini” buck’s (pun intended).

Perhaps it was all a rouse to promote their upcoming “Mini Takes The States” Campaign ( MTTS 2010 – http://www.minitakesthestates.com/ )…who will ever know!

Thanks Rope!

I really hope they get it now. MAKE MINI RWD!!!! Then only, I will change bets. Let’s start the signature project in 911 NATION!!!

I owned both a modified CooperS and GT3 at the same time, and took both to the track on the same day whenever I could. Fun was the same, I’ll admit. Performance, make it whatever course you wish, NO CHANCE. Not even against a BMW 330, but that IS a lose-lose admission for the company.

One would think, no? I too have taken both for a drive in the hillside roads of Germany. Though I kept up with my Porsche and Ruf counterparts while rolling in the Mini, I almost burned the brakes and killed the transmission. It was haaaaard work. When doing so in another Porsche, no matter which one, it was smooth sailing.

Thanks for the insight Hans.
