IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN | It’s Driving Season!

Post image for IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN | It’s Driving Season!

UPDATE: This post was previously published pre-The Great Escape outlining some of the details of our trip. We made an editorial decision to remove it and wait until after the trip was completed in order to discuss it so as to give you a more complete picture of what actually happened, and how it went down. That being said, I liked the title so much I thought it was worth rewording and reprinting. So here it is, new and improved.

This is just a friendly reminder (not that it is needed) from 911 Nation  to all our readers to take advantage of the warm summer weather to plan a trip, organize a rally, and head out onto the open road with loved ones and friends.  We were all incredibly excited when the sun began to shine bright, the snow thawed, and it was time to dust off the old bird and finally take’er for a spin again (not that i have that problem in South Florida.  But it’s not just enough to shine her up and go for a spin around town or replace the SUV you were riding to the office in.  Take this opportunity to go explore some new territory out there. Be adventurous. Find some new roads to conquer. There are plenty out there in every region.

Not to go back to the same film (Wedding Crashers), but I am reminded of perhaps the most recognizable line of that movie: It’s driving (wedding) season! It’s that time of year again when Porsche lifestyle enthusiasts throw caution to the wind and head to all kinds of locations around the globe to drive their beloved cars.  I myself just returned from a wonderful 4-day shotgun trip to Germany, where we covered over 2,000 kms of Autobahn and quiet curvy country roads in that short time.  We were up by 730am and on the road by 9am, and shutting the car down for the night around 10pm.  And we may yet squeeze in one more epic trip in the northeastern United States, but that is yet to be determined. The way I see it, why let another summer go by when you could be out there driving. If you ain’t drivin’, you ain’t livin’. So let’s get started.

DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START?

FATHER’S DAY RALLY

Still not sure what to get your dad for Father’s Day?  The day is fast approaching. Just around the corner. Are you reluctant to add another tie to his extensive collection?  Can’t find the book you had in mind to give him? Stuck for a new idea? Here’s a thought that any dad would appreciate (luckily it’s on a Sunday).  Why not plan to take him on a long drive in the country. Check to see if there are any track days organized by the PCA chapter in your area, and head out there to burn some hot laps.  If you get your act together now, you could leave Saturday and maybe spend the night somewhere.

If you’re like me these days, time is not exactly on your side. With work, and all the other things that need doing, it’s hard to carve out some hours for this type of thing. Don’t worry. If you can get it up and running by tomorrow, plan something for later on next week, or the week after. Who’s counting? Figure out a route, put a little package together, and give it to him as a save the date gift.  Check out our post on tips for organizing rallies, and tips for particularly impressive roads to drive.  You have the 911 Nation gurantee that he will be smiling from ear to ear.

Don’t you agree? Then you should subscribe by RSS reader or E-mail to stay connected and gain access to much more Porsche stuff. That’s what we do. You can also help support our mission by connecting with us through Twitter and Facebook.

Take the proper precautions when pushing the limits and be safe out there.

sounds like a great trip. That came together quick!! Enjoy it. As for renting a Porsche, as I’m sure you know, they are readily available. Heck, the Panamera is even in the rental fleet now.

It was completely spontaneous. I had no idea I would be going this time last week, but sometimes that’s just the way it has to be.;) Luckily we managed to find some very affordable tickets online. We’ll be posting pictures as we go. We are thinking of planning one for later in the summer and it would be a pleasure to have you guys come aboard for that one. And we’d love to see you up in Maine for a tour as well, as we discussed with John.

It’d be great to get our hands on a Panamera as I haven’t yet driven one. Thanks for stopping by.
